3D Models of My Favorite Field Sites
I enjoy getting a bird's eye view of the Earth (and other worlds) as much as possible. This perspective allows me to understand the landscape in ways that it is hard to do from the ground.
Since 2015, I have been fortunate enough to have a drone camera setup that I can take to fields sites to take photos, movies, and make maps. My first was the DJI Inspire and now I have a DJI Mavic Pro. One of the more time consuming and interesting things to do with a drone is to take hundreds of photos looking down as you cover a grid pattern over a surface. Then these images and the features on the ground can be triangulated to create a 3D model (I use Pix4D software for my processing). Some of the models from this work are below and I am working to get many more of favorite ones posted here.
